Privacy
What this site collects, why, and who else sees it — in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.
The short version
This site does not track you for advertising or analytics. There are no adverts, no analytics, and no tracking pixels.
Beyond the basic technical records any website keeps — such as the IP address your browser sends when it asks for a page — the information here is what you choose to give: an email if you make an account, a message if you write in, or a delivery address if you order a print. None of it is ever sold.
Reading articles
Every article is free and needs no account. You can read the whole site without giving any information at all.
If you create an account
We store your email address, an encrypted password, the date you joined, when you last signed in, and whether you opted in to offers. Offers are off unless you tick the box — you can untick it, or close your account, at any time from your account page.
If you buy a print
We store your email address, delivery address, what you ordered, the amount, and payment and order references.
Your card details never reach this site. Payment happens on Stripe's own secure pages; we never see or store card numbers.
Your delivery address is passed to our printing partner solely so they can post your order to you.
We remove your email address and delivery address from our records 30 days after your order ships. If you have an account, they are kept while the account is open and removed 30 days after you close it. The order itself — date, item and amount — is kept as a business record, with nothing personal attached.
Stripe and our printing partner keep their own copies under their own retention rules. Those are outside our control and we cannot delete them.
If you write to us
Your name, email, subject and message are stored so we can reply and keep a record of the conversation. They are deleted when we clear the message.
Cookies
If you sign in, this site stores first-party cookies that keep you signed in as you move between pages. They are removed when you sign out.
Images are delivered by our storage provider, whose network sets a short-lived security cookie (around 30 minutes) to tell real visitors from automated bots. It is not used for advertising or tracking.
If you go through to pay, Stripe sets its own cookies on its payment pages, under Stripe's policy.
There are no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies of any kind — which is why this site has no cookie pop-up.
Content from elsewhere
No advertising, analytics or tracking scripts are loaded. Fonts are served from this site rather than fetched from Google, so your visit is not reported to them.
Some articles may include an embedded video, which loads from YouTube's privacy-enhanced player; if you play it, YouTube may set cookies under its own policy. Choosing to buy takes you to Stripe's own pages, where Stripe's policy applies.
Who else handles your information
Running the site takes a handful of third-party services: one to host it, one to hold accounts and store images, one to take payment, one to print and post orders, and one to send email. Each is given only what its job requires — the printer gets your delivery address, the email service gets your email address, and so on.
We never sell your information, and we do not authorise any of these services to market to you. Each handles what it receives under its own terms and privacy policy; the payment provider, for example, also uses transaction data to detect fraud, which helps protect both you and us.
Payment is handled by Stripe. You are taken to Stripe's own secure pages to pay, which is why your card details never reach this site.
Our hosting and storage providers see technical records such as IP addresses, as any website's providers do. We are happy to name any of these services on request — just ask through the contact form.
How long things are kept
Account details — until you close your account.
Order email and delivery address — 30 days after the order ships, or 30 days after an account is closed.
Order records (date, item, amount) — kept as business records.
Messages — until deleted.
Your choices
You can opt out of offers, close your account, or ask what is held about you and request deletion — use the contact form. An account cannot be closed while an order is still being made or shipped.
Never. Your information is never sold, never rented, and never used for advertising.
